Screen & content planner

Turn a diagonal into useful dimensions, then see what happens when the content and display have different proportions.

See the equations ↗

The physical screen

Active display area, measured corner to corner.

Use a ratio (16 and 9) or pixels (1920 and 1080). Set width and height for the installed orientation.

The content file

Assumes square pixels and centred alignment. The graphic is a proportional diagram, not a supplied media preview.

Display height68.5 cm26.96 inches

Content fit on your displayA 4:3 image on a 16:9 screen leaves equal unused bars at the left and right.CONTENT
Visible contentUnused display area

The whole image is visible. Unused vertical bars sit on the left and right.

Each bar is 15.2 cm wide.

Dimensions exclude bezels, stand, mount and installation clearance. Check the display manufacturer’s drawing before specifying a physical fit. Pixel density and viewing distance are not assessed.

Loop & storyboard time budget

Allocate a target duration across your sections. Include transitions in the section times; we will count exactly what you enter.

How timing is calculated ↗

The starting rows are an editable example, not a recommended structure or viewing-time claim.

Each coloured segment is a section; the dark gap is unallocated time.

Durations are additive. Any overlap between shots, transition handles or player-added pauses must be resolved in the edit and included in your entered times.

Beyond the calculator

A format is a creative decision.

A portrait crop may remove the very component a shot is meant to explain. A loop that fits the time budget can still need better captions or a clearer return to its beginning.

Before you lock the brief

  • Confirm the screen’s installed orientation and native pixel dimensions.
  • Check critical labels and details in every requested crop.
  • Name the playback device, audio conditions and required exports.
  • Test the finished file on the actual player, including the loop boundary.
